About JLR Membership

The Junior League of Rockford, Inc. reaches out to women of all races, religions and national origins who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to voluntarism. We welcome your interest and questions about joining our organization. For membership inquiries click here .

Provisional Members

New candidates for the Junior League of Rockford spend their first year as Provisional members receiving training in voluntarism and education about the Rockford community. During the first year, Provisionals also become acquainted with the Junior League's structure and operation and are required to attend monthly General Membership Meetings, monthly Provisional Class Meetings, and at least two League Committee Meetings. Other obligations include financial support of the League's major fundraiser, as well as volunteering to support the League's current projects. Annual dues for Provisional members are $95. For the Provisional year, dues are payable with the application or by the beginning of the Provisional course for the current Junior League fiscal year. Thereafter, Dues are due annually by April 1st. Any member who cannot meet her financial obligations can apply for a dues scholarship by contacting the Treasurer. In addition to their annual dues, Provisional members may also be charged a Provisional course fee to be determined by the Membership Development Committee each year.

Active Members

Active members are those who have completed their requirements for Provisional membership and who have been admitted to Active membership. Each active member must serve on at least one of approximately twelve committees which all work together to support the League's mission, vision, and focus. Other obligations include financial support of the League's major fundraiser, as well as volunteering to support the League's current projects. Annual membership dues for Active members are $95 and are due by April 1st.

Non-Resident Members

Active and Sustaining members who are living a distance from their League area, shall be granted the Non-Resident privilege. Non-Resident Active members may hold this status for no more than two years unless they are living in an area where there is no Junior League. Non-Resident Sustaining members may retain this privilege indefinitely. Annual membership dues are $95.00 for Non-Resident Active members and $75.00 for Non-Resident Sustaining members and are due by April 1st.

Leaves of Absence

An Active member in good standing who desires to request a leave of absence from the requirements of Active membership shall contact Nominating and Placement. A Personal leave of absence is granted for three months and is renewable for up to one year. The member must fulfill dues and fundraising financial requirements prior to the leave of absence being granted.

Auxiliary Members

Auxiliary members are those who have completed a minimum of two years of Active service. Auxiliary members must make a volunteer commitment to the Junior League project(s) as set forth in the project proposal(s) and must fulfill their fundraising requirements as set forth in the fundraising proposal(s). Auxiliary members are not required to attend General Membership Meetings. They are unable to vote or hold office and may reinstate at any time. In order to become an Auxiliary member, Nominating and Placement must be contacted by April 1. Annual membership dues for Auxiliary members are $125.00 per year and are due by April 1st. A year as an Auxiliary member does not count toward Sustainer membership.

Sustainer Members

Members who have served five years as Active members may be granted Sustainer status. Sustainer members are called upon to support the League's projects during the year. Sustainer dues are $75 annually and are due by April 1st.

Emeritus Members

Emeritus membership may be granted to any Sustaining member who has reached the age of 80 years and has requested Emeritus membership. Upon being granted Emeritus membership permanently, she shall no longer have a dues requirement to the Junior League. Her membership will be reflected on the League’s membership roll, but the League shall have no financial obligation to the Association for her membership.

Honorary Members

Honorary members are those whom the Council by a unanimous vote has decreed worthy of election to such membership. Honorary members may not vote or hold office.

Friends of Junior League

A Friend of Junior League is any corporation, institution, organization or individual who supports the Junior League of Rockford mission and is approved by the League Council. Friends of Junior League contribute annually at various financial levels beginning at $125.00 per year. A year as a friend does not count toward Sustainer membership and Friends cannot vote or hold office. Their dues are due by April 1st annually.
