"Envision Tomorrow Today"

Wow!  What an amazing League year!  At our Annual Dinner on May 20th we celebrated this past year’s accomplishments, awarded a scholarship, and presented awards to our members and community partners.  The magnitude of our accomplishments would make one think that we have hundreds of active members in our organization! During our evening of celebration, we were reminded of how our vision to develop and implement a program for first generation college students to gain access to and success in post-secondary education became a reality through hard work and determination as well as through our collaborations.  We successfully mentored twenty-four high students and we provided several school-wide workshops to help students through the college application process.  A special thanks to the team of leaders and committee members who developed the RAISE project into something quite extraordinary and thanks to our members who served as mentors and on teams throughout the year! We also celebrated the success of our vision to host our third Under One Roof Designer Showcase Home Tour.  During a two-week period, nearly 2,500 people toured the Designer Showcase Home and were impressed by the work of the designers who transformed a historic house into a magnificent home!  It was fun to staff the house and to be a part of the excitement!  Many thanks go to the fundraiser committee and its collaborators that worked tirelessly to bring such a unique fundraising event to Rockford! I am so honored to serve as your President for the 2008-2009 League year.  I know that we will accomplish great things this year because of your commitment to our mission.  So many of you have already taken my theme to heart, which is to Envision Tomorrow Today.  As Board members and committee chairs you have already been planning for the months ahead.  You have formulated ideas today which will make a lasting impression on tomorrow, the next day and possibly years to come.   For the past 77 years we have adapted and evolved as an organization.  We have assessed where our League is going and implemented new ideas to bring about positive change.  I encourage all of you to take that vision you have today and begin laying the ground-work for what you hope to accomplish tomorrow and in the future to further our mission!    I am looking forward to the year ahead where we will take our vision to expand our RAISE project and select a new class of Juniors at Jefferson High School for our mentoring program, recruit community volunteers to mentor our RAISE students, and hire a project coordinator to work at the high school.  I am encouraged by the vision of the provisional recruitment and provisional development committees to recruit and retain a provisional class of women committed to the Junior League of Rockford and its mission.  I am also excited about the many training and social opportunities that are being planned for our active and sustaining members this year.  And finally I cannot wait to see what is in store for our next home tour fundraiser in the spring of 2009.  Please join me in Envisioning Tomorrow Today!

Warmest regards,
